Moxie Memorizers

Wednesday, June 01, 2011  ::

Happy June first to you! I'm excited for summer.  It's one of my favorite seasons...the kids are home, it's time to swim, the fruit in season is juicy and delicious, I get to participate in a Beth Moore Bible study group. Summer is just a refreshing time of year.  Woohoo for summer!!

Last month I was a very ambitious and memorized too much.  I stuffed it all into my brain, but I want to make sure the scripture I take in is also getting into my heart.  For that, I'm slowing down.  However, I am really loving the Lamentations passage I'm working on right now, so I'm excited to get going on the next section. The first part is all about remembering my affliction and my soul being downcast, so memorizing and meditating on his faithfulness and mercy will be refreshing...a perfect way to start summer!
Lamentations 3:22-23
Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed,
   for his mercies never fail.
They are new every morning;
   great is your faithfulness.

There have been times in my life where I thought I would be completely consumed by heartache, affliction, bitterness, and even wandering away from Jesus.  Thanks be to God for his great love! His mercies never failed me. God has been perfectly faithful to me even when I haven't been faithful to Him. If you are in a season of affliction, wandering, bitterness, or heartache, cling to the promises in this verse. He will not fail you. He may not come through in a way that think you deserve or need, but He will come through in His perfect sovereignty. Psalm 130 pairs so perfectly with this passage in Lamentations. Every time I ponder His great faithfulness and new mercies, His full redemption comes to mind. Psalm 130 says if He kept a record of our sins, no one could stand, in Him is full redemption.  My heart fills with emotional thankfulness every time I remember this.

I'm excited to see the scripture you all are memorizing. God's word is so active in our lives! If you haven't posted in a while, now is a great time to jump back in the game!

Post and memorize away, my friends!

13 important comments so far. What are your thoughts?

Throughout this month, and more recently these last two weeks, I have been so thankful for Moxie Memorizers!! There are times when it's tough, and definitely a discipline, but for the most part I am so excited about how far each of us have come and how much more we get to memorize. I love having the accountability and the challenge. I love hiding more of His word in my heart. I really love too that there is no judgement if I have to scale back, or double up two more weeks on one scripture I was supposed have memorized sooner. Anyway, I am REALLY excited that it's already June and we're still going strong. Keep it up ladies!
My verse is the last in the passage I've been going after the last few weeks.
2 Corinthians 9:11
You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
Happy June!!

During this season, God is consistently reminding me to number our days, and that the He works through our weaknesses. Praise and thanks be to God!

Psalm 90: 12-14
So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Return, O Lord! How long? Have pity on your servants! Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we many rejoice and be glad all our days.

Psalm 103: 13-14
As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear Him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.

Thank you Moxie Memorizers for the continuous accountability!

I took some time last week to reflect on all of the scripture I have memorized so far this year. As a genuine teacher, I made a web-map and God showed me some AMAZING connections. I am thankful that God is continuing to change me for the better even though there have been times in the last 6 months I have really fought it.

To continue in the theme of "God is greater than me" scriptures, I am memorizing Psalm 90:12 along with Dejah. "So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom."

I will also be bringing back a passage I memorized a few years ago but have almost completely forgotten Colossians 1:9-12
"We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worth of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light."

For once I had my verses chosen prior to our "due" date. Emphasis on "according to His will" below.

1 John 5:14-15 (NIV)
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

Wow. I am learning SO MUCH lately. I feel like I am on such an important brink, quite like the cliff we have been talking about in 2M for awhile now. I remember being 10ish and standing at the top of blob tower and staring for a long time at the floatie below. I hear God whispering, "You will not regret it." But I have to jump. I just don't know what the view on the way down is going to be like! Please be praying for God to continue to call me and to be patient with me, and pray for courage even without clarity on my end. Thank you wonderful women!

My verse for these couple weeks:

Romans 10:13-15
...for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is writtin, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"

(still working on that one)

Psalm 119:32
I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free.

My walk with God has lately been a little void of feeling, which is very strange because i am totally a feeler. God has stabilized my life so much that sometimes i operate like a machine or robot, and i forget to feel. It's like God has come in-between my life and emotions. So praise God for that-for balance and restoration and new life. The verses I picked are short, but really focus on stiring yourself up in the faith!

Heb. 10:23 Let us hold unswirvingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
1 Tim. 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called.

Adding to the passage I have been working on. Here are the next two I'm working on:

And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
-Colossians 3:14-15

and she laughs without fear of the future.
When she speaks, her words are wise,
and she gives instructions with kindness.
She carefully watches everything in her household
and suffers nothing from laziness." -Proverbs 31:25-27

So I'm still working on the verses from last month. It's been a discipline to keep it up but I'm determined to keep going. It's great to have Moxie Memorizers as accountability! So along with my almost memorized verses from last time, I picked up another passage that I've been clinging to this week.

Matthew 6: 19-21 (ESV) says,

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

I've been evaluating my life and my goals lately and trying to rid myself of the ones that do not glorify God and pray deeply about the ones that do and how God is leading me towards those.

I've been a slacker. I was ambitious in the verses I chose initially, and now it's time to deal with the consequences. So this month I will be working on the passages I chose for the past few months - I've almost got them!

A thought on Erin F.'s passage in Colossians - this is what I've been praying for my friends and fore 2M as a whole, for us to know God's will, to be filled with spiritual wisdom, so that we might please God in everything we do, especially as we move toward the community center.

So I have slowed down a lot the last couple months, but pruning God will the desire and patience to continue memorizing. And this is my first attempt at picking back up, this post.

Psalm 62:1-2 (which I chose prior to the David study so very cool)
For God alone my soul waits: from him comes my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.

This is a reminder to me for whom I wait as I venture into the future.
