Moxie Memorizers

How are you doing in your scripture memory journey?

Recently, I've heard some specific, tangible displays of the Spirit's transformational work in lives through scripture memory. I hope that each of you are paying attention to how God brings His word to your mind. Never forget that God's word is useful for teaching, reproof, training in righteousness so that you will be complete and equipped for every good work. That is good news indeed!

I'm still struggling a bit to get into the swing of things. I'm reviewing consistently, but not learning new verses like I would like to be. Today I will be writing out several months worth of scripture I hope to memorize. Part of my problem right now is getting the words on my cards. I know what I will be memorizing for the next three months, so I should/will go ahead and prepare.

This month my heart needs a reminder of God's greatness.  He is the Rock of my salvation.

Psalm 95:1-3

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation! Let us come into His presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise. For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

My heart lifts in praise even as I type out the passage. It will be a great one to have in my heart.

And you? What passage are you working on?

By the way, I'm so pleased with all the participation. Keep up the great work, friends! He is at work in your lives in awesome ways!

I haven't been doing a great job reviewing lately, so I need to improve on that. I finished my passage in Isaiah 40, and like I said before, I am going to begin memorizing verses on worship. While I thought this would have me jumping around from various Psalms, I have found a passage in 1 Chronicles that I'm going to focus on for a while. The chapter is 16, and verses will be 8-36. That's daunting to think of, but many of the verses are short, so it's manageable.
So here I go:

1 Chronicles 16:8
Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name;
make known among the nations what he has done.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the LORD.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts." -Isaiah 55:8-9

I've been so excited and encouraged by my new review time and the progress I've made in the last couple of weeks! I really feel like I've got a good handle on all the verses I commited to last year and have the ones from this year down as well! Coming from someone who never thought she could memorize anything, this system really does work if you're consistent!

I read this verse going through our leadership book yesterday and knew it was one I wanted to remember. I'm looking for another one to memorize too, because I know I can do more than one every two weeks!

"Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."
Isaiah 43:18-19

Still plugging along in Isaiah 43 :) I haven't been great at memorizing, so consistency is something I will be working on too. However, God has been gracious in giving me verses that apply deeply to situations I am encountering. He is really good at what He does haha.

I got James 1:9-10 done in the first part of the month but I didn't even get close to accomplishing verses 11 & 12. That's what I am going to work on this time around.

"For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits. Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him."

I am moving forward in Isaiah 55 with verse 4 & 5:

"Behold, I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples.

Behold, you shall call a nation that you do not know, and a nation that did not know you shall run to you, because of the Lord your God and of the Holy One of Israel, for he has glorified you."

Hello again! Thanks for yet another bit of accountability. I was just sharing with someone today that it has made so much of a difference for me. It's funny, and seemingly a small thing, but you provide a goal that I want to meet, and somehow that pushes me to follow through more than I would be motivated alone. It's so true that the power of God's people in community is no small thing. This is what I learned this week - something I've half-known for many years, but wanted to get it really down.

Hebrews 4:12
"For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of bone and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart."

Hi guys!

Psalm 107:9
for He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.

(All of Psalm 107 is amazing, and is a fantastic example of how God answers when we cry out to Him)

Romans 12:21
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Isaiah 50:10-11
Who of you fears the LORD and obeys the word of His servant? Let the one who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God. But now, all of you who light fires and provide yourselves with flaming torches, go, walk in the light of the fires and of the torches you have set ablaze. This is what you shall receive from my hand: You will lie down in torment.

I held this verse close to heart when I was processing through the whole Baylor question. The idea of leaving was devastating, but I knew I would if God asked me. In the meantime, before I had heard, this verse reminded me that I was following God, that I didn't need to know or provide myself with my own answers. God would answer, and He would be faithful. And I would find peace when I waited on the LORD, even if everything was dark in the moment.

Romans 12:12
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

Acts 21:13
Then Paul answered, "Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus."

And then finally, picking up again in Philippians:

Philippians 2:1-2
If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.

Continuing on in 1 Peter, I'm finally to the last two verses I had originally memorized. After getting these down, I'll probably continue on in the chapter. This week I'll be reviewing 1 Peter 1:16-17.

"for it is written: 'Be holy, because I am holy.' Since you call on a father who judges each man's work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear."

I'll also add 1 Sam 16:7b ESV
"For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart."

Isaiah 26 3:4 NIV

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.

Neglected to post last rounds verse...will just catch up this time as I am trying to memorize Psalms 31:10-31 (12&13 were last round, 13&14 this round)

12 She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.
13 She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands.
14 She is like the ships of the merchant;she brings her food from afar.
15 She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens.

Very encouraged by you ladies.

John 1: 16
And from his fullness We have all received, grace upon grace.

Found this verse in a birthday card and just was struck by its truth. I feel so richly blessed by my Father in heaven and know out if my humanity do not deserve such grace.

I have been really struggling with memorizing. But today I sat down and wrote a bunch on note cards. Thanks Angel for the idea. I am going to restart on working to memorize all of Proverbs 31 a couple verses at a time.

Proverbs 31:10-11 ESV
An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her and he will have no lack of gain.

I am taking a short break from Psalm 10 and will be working on Nahum 1:7. Work has been a challenge lately and a friend shared this verse with me.

Nahum1:7
The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knows those who take refuge in Him.

Sorry I'm a little late in getting this posted. Enjoying going back through James and memorizing, such good stuff and so relatable.

James 1:5-6 (ESV)
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.

I've been late in posting lately, but I'm working on

Psalm 73:25-26:
Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

I am memorizing Psalm 139. Here is verse 7:
"I can never escape from your Spirit!
I can never get away from your presence!"

What perfect timing for this verse!

Sorry for the late response, been working a lot lately:

Ephesians 1:18-19~
"I pray that the eyes of your heart may enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe."
