Moxie Memorizers

Friday, July 01, 2011  ::

WOO-HOO!! We are half-way through our first year of memorizing scripture together! So far, all of us have 12 verses memorized (give or take a few) which means as a group we have memorized almost 200 verses! That, my friends, is awesome! I’m so excited and pray that you are encouraged by the work that you are putting into this!
Isaiah 55:10-11 says, “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed of the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish with I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” All of the effort that you are putting into taking scripture into your heart is completely worth it. God is cultivating amazing, beautiful results in your life the same way water causes flowers to grow or bread fills our bellies! Inspiring for sure!

Because I’m a planner (ridiculously in advance sometimes), I’ve already been dreaming about what our Moxie Memorizers celebration for the completed year should be. I seriously cannot wait to hear everyone quoting scripture to each other.  That’s going to be cool. Also, we will have some treats. Maybe a dance party should be in the mix. The Babler sisters are pretty good at planning dance parties.  Hmmmm.

Photo used without permission.  (I love these quirky ladies!)

All I know is collectively will have have 400 verses flowing from our hearts and mouths.  That is worth celebrating!
I’m going to start working Hebrews 4:14-16. Because I sometimes act too big for my britches and say I’m going to memorize more than I actually can, I’m just taking verse 14 for the next two weeks.

Hebrews 4:14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. (NIV)

Share your verses. This month as you read everyone’s posts, pray for each person by name that we will be strengthened, encouraged, and excited to keep running this race!

Finally getting to this one:

"Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground for it is the time to seek the LORD, that he may come and rain righteousness upon you." -Hosea 10:12

Even though I may not have ALL of my verses totally memorized, I know God is working in my heart through this discipline. Sometimes I feel like the work He's doing in me in so sloooooow! But I can see glimpses of change in my heart and I know it's His doing. :)

I have not been nearly as diligent in memorizing as I had hoped. I have reevaluated how to better incorporate this discipline into my daily routine so prayerfully, I will be adding many more verses to my heart and mind!!!

The next two weeks I will be spending lots of time solidifying previous verses and will focus on this one:
James 4:17 So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin. (ESV)

As I shared with some of you at Monday night's study, this verse speaks to an area where I can identify with. Because of my fear of failure and a mask of perfection, I can often times find myself failing to act (even if I know it is the right thing to do) so I can avoid any failure or imperfection. This verse is definitely one that I pray penetrates my prideful heart!

Yay for the 1st of the month! I've honestly been most excited to begin memorizing verses for this month. I feel like a blank slate ready to absorb whatever God has for me. My goal for this first half is to work on these three verses in Hebrews. They're intertwined so I wanted to master them together.

Hebrews 11:1 (ESV)
"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen."

Hebrews 12: 1-2 (ESV)
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross despising the shame and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God."

I might be at these ones for the whole month but I LOVE all they say.

Philippians 2:13
For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose.

Yes it is! I pray that it always will be.

Let's definitely have a dance party.

Romans 3:3
We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.

Because Beth Moore said to memorize this verse for our study I picked this one for the first part of July :)

Because I can relate to what Tia said, I choose the same verse.

James 4:17 So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin. (ESV)

I hear you, Sara L - I still need to keep brushing up on the last few passages. But I'll move forward onto a new one. Also, if any of you have a smart phone there are some really helpful apps for Bible verse memorization.

Here's mine for the month:
Colossians 1:9-12
"...we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you might live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father..."

I highlighted this one last week during Chad's message and decided it would definitely be the next one I memorized. Short but packs a punch.

"So you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God." Galatians 4:7 (ESV)

.....

And remember Angel, as the sage Pink says, "Don't get fancy, just get dancey." Wise words to live by. Anna and I are happy to help you out with that anytime. ;)

Psalm 27: 1-3 The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread? When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh, My adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell. Though a host encamp against me, My heart will not fear; Though war arise against me, In spite of this I shall be confident.

To be completely honest, the thought of getting together at the end of the year and verbalizing the scripture we all memorized over the last year is completely intimidating, as I often have to revisit my cards and "read" the scripture over to engage the memorization.... BUT dancing I can do, and Love to do!!!! In all honesty, I have enjoyed watching all of you grow, walk in, memorize and speak the truth of God's word. You inspire me. I look forward to continuing to share in the transformation process through the His Word! In Love `- Reg

Ah, don't be intimidated about saying verses to each other. It will definitely be a celebration atmosphere and not an exam atmosphere! I get all tongue tied when I try to say my verse to people, but I get super excited when I talk about what God is teaching me through His word. Make sense! No worries and No pressure!

I've definitely got to do some refreshing and reviewing this month so my verse will be short.
"For you, O Lord, are my hope,
my trust, O LORD, from my youth."
Psalm 71:5

You know a Babler can't pass on a dance party. Let the planning begin!

I'm late getting on here, but don't think I forgot about you gals ;). I will continue working on my passage from last month and making sure I have it deep in my heart before I move on. Here it is:
Philippians 2:1,2
"Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind."

I'm excited about our end of the year party and celebrating the growth we've experienced as memorizers. I'm proud of all you gals and love you so much!

I'm a little late as well but I will be memorizing Habakkuk 2:3 which I would not have come across if it weren't for Jonathan Louie. I feel like it speaks to the place I am in in life right now, waiting for God to show me the next step to take.

"For still the vision awaits its appointed time; It hastens to the end-it will not lie. If it seems slow wait for it, it will surely come, it will not delay." Habakkuk 2:3.

I've been out of the loop for a while, but I figured this was as good a time as any to start back :). My verse for this half of the month is:

Isaiah 64:4
Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.

I made it here and only a few days late darn vacation :) my goal is to work on revisiting my verses and really process thru how His word has been influencing my life since we started! I also am going to work on this verse:

Galatians 6:9 (ESV)
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
