Moxie Memorizers

Thursday, September 15, 2011  ::

Lately, Lamentations 3:19-23 has been ringing through my heart and mind. "I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall. I will remember and my soul is downcast within me. YET this I call to mind and therefore I have hope." It goes on to talk about his wonderful mercies and faithfulness that are new to us every single morning.  The point is that I'm so glad I have such a treasure stored up in my heart. God has been using in my life in such sweet ways.  I pray that many of the verses you have stored into your heart overtake your thoughts as you go about your day to day responsibilities.

Like I said at the beginning of the month, I'm working my way through Romans 12.  Sometimes I get so antsy in wanting to memorize. There are so many great passages I wish I already had in my heart. I get impatient waiting for my brain to be able to catch up to my desires. For now I'll stick with a few verses a month. I'm pretty sure if I try to memorize more than that it won't stick.

Romans 12:5-6
so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith.

Post your what your memorizing in the comments. If you've missed the last few times to post, jump back in. If you are new and want to join the fun, please do!

15 important comments so far. What are your thoughts?

I am going to memorize Isaiah 55 and will start with this:

1 “Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without cost.
2 Why spend money on what is not bread,
and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
and you will delight in the richest of fare.
3 Give ear and come to me;
listen, that you may live.
I will make an everlasting covenant with you,
my faithful love promised to David."

Through a time of loss and just struggling the last couple months this chapter God has used to speak to me. It gives me peace knowing he satisfies all my needs, he provides, and that his ways and thoughts are higher than mine. Thanks everyone for sticking together in memorizing scripture, it is so encouraging! Much love!

I just have to say again how blessed I am by Moxie Memorizers. I love the accountability as well as getting on this blog and reading more about what all you women are being challenged with! I'm very thankful!
This half month I'm finishing up with ch 121 of Psalm, with verses 6-8.
"The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from harm - he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore."

"If his children forsake my law and do not walk according to my rules, if they violate my statues and do not keep my commandments, then I will punish their transgression with the rod and their iniquity with stripes, but I will not remove from him my steadfast love or be false to my faithfulness. I will not violate my covenant or alter the word that went forth from my lips. Once for all I have sworn by my holiness; I will not lie to David. His offspring shall endure forever, his throne as long as the sun before me. Like the moon it shall be established forever, a faithful witness to the skies."
Psalm 89:30-37

I stumbled upon this recently, and I think God is teaching me to understand the depth of my sins and messiness, but to also rest assured that His love is steadfast and unwavering.

More than that we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance and endurance produces character and character produces hope and hope does not put us to shame because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Romans 5:3-5

I am also reviewing Romans 15:13 I was reviewing my packet and realized that I had forgotten this one

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Jeremiah 32:17
Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you.

Too often, I find myself trying to control my day to day or figure out the plan for the future instead of relying on the sovereign God of the universe who created the heavens and the earth. I know in my head that nothing is too hard for him, but sadly, my actions do not always reveal this knowledge. Praying that as I memorize this verse this month that head knowledge will become heart knowledge!

Love you all! --Tia

I love how God continues to be so timely in His truth :) He not only provided a verse for me, but also the wording that I really needed to help me hear Him more clearly.

Interesting enough it is a verse that I was familiar with in NIV, but the version brought to my attention, the one I'm going to memorize is the NLT version of Philipians 2:13.

"For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him."

So thankful for His continued encouragement :)

I always forget to post my verses on here! But to finish out this month I am going to memorize Psalm 19:14:
"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer."

God has been teaching me a lot about identifying the lies in my life and living in HIs truth, so I have been really processing what that means.

John 8:31-32:
"...If you continue in my word then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free..."

1 Samuel 16:7b
For the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.

So last time around I actually ended up memorizing Tori's posted verse (Proverbs 12:18). It was really timely for me. So I'm still working on Habakkuk 3:17-19.

"Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.
The Sovereign LORD is my strength;
he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
he enables me to go on the heights."

I have been enjoying some up close encounters with Jesus of the past few weeks. He has graciously broken through another layer of my pride bringing me to a new place of further submission, awe and love. These verses have already played a part in drawing me to my knees.

John 11: 41-42
"And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, 'Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me..."

Phil. 2: 5-7
"Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men."

I am also grateful for Moxie Memorizers and its part in changing my heart.

Psalm 62:1-2 (NIV)
Truly my soul finds rest in God;
my salvation comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

I have been in St. Louis for the past 3 days. Got to be with Joyce Meyer, Nancy Alcorn, and the Eldridges, and with all my Mercy Ministry mommas! My heart is so full of how Jesus has redeemed my life. His favor and blessing are too good. I'm filled with thankfulness, excitement for the journey God has me on. I really do feel like I could explode into a holy fire!

By Your favor, O Lord, You have established me as a strong mountain.
Psalm 30:7

You are the glory of my strength, my proud adornment, and by your favor my horn is exalted and I walk with uplifted face.
Psalm 89:17

Working on these two for the next two weeks.

"As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God." - 1 Peter 4:2

"So I say, live by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature." - Gal 5:16
