Moxie Memorizers

If she can do it, so can we!!

She is so ridiculously cute. I especially love how much joy oozes from her little lips and face. I bet this stuff makes Jesus smile a lot.  Do you ever think about the pleasure it gives God when you love His word enough to memorize it? Think about that for a bit...your spiritual disciplines not only bring you closer to Jesus, but you bring him pleasure when you engage in activities that draw you closer to him. Whoa. That's pretty awesome.

Thankfully, He has enabled me to exceed my goal for October. Right now I'm back on pace to reach my year end goal. I'm continuing on in Romans 12.

Romans 12:11-13
Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

I'm looking forward to reading the verses you all are memorizing!

Pressing on through Philippians...

vs. 1:12-13
"Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel. As a result, it has become clear throughout the palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ."

It has been very hard for some reason to press on and keep my focus in Philippians, after having gotten off to such a strong start there. But as I pick it up back again, I am refreshed!

I'm working on Psalm 63 for the end of this month. It's a large feat but hopefully it will motivate me to not be so lazy regarding my scripture memory.

"You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me. Those who want to kill me will be destroyed; they will go down to the depths of the earth. They will be given over to the sword and become food for jackals. But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by God will glory in him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced."

I am feeling challenged to expand on a previously memorized verse, so here we go!

For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance. for to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially those who believe. Command and teach these things. let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

God gave me these words to praise him while we were at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, so it's been easy to memorize this verse!

"You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things and by your will they were created and have their being." Revelation 4:11

I'm still working on my last two verses (Job 10:12 and Habakkuk 3:17-19). If I can get these two more solidly in my head and heart before the end of the month I may move ahead with a new verse but for now I want to review and make sure it's not just surfacey memory that will wash away.

Sorry, I was out of town this weekend and wasn't able to post!

"Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there is any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!"

-Psalm 139:23-24 ESV

Honestly, I am having a hard time with memorizing lately and getting into a routine and making it a daily/weekly habit.

A verse that I think the Holy Spirit has laid on my heart to just take to heart is 1 John 2:15-16. I memorized it over a year ago and know it well, but want it to sink deep.

"Do not love the world or anything in the world. For if anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world, the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes, and the boasting in what he has and does, comes not from the Father but from the world."

With my new job it has been really easy to spend $$ and I feel myself becoming more materialistic than I would like. I think finances are something I am holding onto with a strong grip and trying to allow the Lord to lead in my spending and giving.

I totally kept forgetting to post here, and because I didn't do as well as I had hoped for the first half of Oct, I was debating whether or not to move on. I have decided to stay with the verses from Oct 1st to get them memorized stronger. They are:

Romans 11:33-36 NIV

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! "Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?" "Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them?" For from him and through him and for him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen.

I have really been struggling memorizing so I am still in Romans for the end of this month.

Romans 5:3-5 ESV
More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance and endurance produces character and character produces hope and hope does not put us to shame because God's love has been poured ointo our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

And let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Haven't been good about posting here :( A previous verse I had done already has been placed on my heart recently and I am memorizing it all over again and am really working on living it out everyday.
Psalm 19:14 ESV
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, o lord my rock and my redeemer.

"Oh God, you are my God. Earnestly I seek you. My soul thirsts and my body longs for you in this dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and have gazed upon your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better than life itself-how i praise you! You satisfy me more than the richest feast!"
Psalm 63:1-5

Just being so reminded lately that Jesus is the one who satisfies me. Nothing in this world can satisfy my soul. Giving more of my life to Jesus so that he is number one.

Psalm 128:1-3

Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways! you shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table.

Isaiah: 26:12

O Lord, you will ordain peace for us, for you have indeed done for us all our works.

I am going to start memorizing 2 Corinthians 9: 6-15 breaking it up into a couple verses at a time. For this time I will focus on verse 6 and 7.

"The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."

I have to confess looking at that chunk of 9 verses seems intimidating but I am not going to give into my fear of failure. I am so thankful for the grace of community and accountability in this group!
