Moxie Memorizers

Monday, August 15, 2011  ::

Oh Dang!! I've been so busy with first day of school thoughts, that I didn't even realize it was time to post our verses for the 15th! Sheesh! I better wake up and pay attention!

Thank you all so much for stepping up, being honest about your journeys in memorizing scripture, and staying the course in what we've committed to God and to each other.  I wouldn't want to do this without you! More than 25 people posted on the August 1st post! If that doesn't encourage all of us, I don't know what will! Let's keep up the good work. To be honest, driving my kids to school and picking them up gives me built in discipline time to review and to memorize. Don't worry. I keep my eyes on the road. I just steer with my knees! Kidding!! I'm kidding. Come on, lighten up a bit!

As I mentioned in my last blog post, I've been contemplating leadership. The verse I will be memorizing over the next 15 days reflects what has been stirring.

Psalm 78:72  And David shepherded them with integrity of heart;
with skillful hands he led them.

My hearts desire is that I will lead with integrity, care for people's hearts, and God will increase my skills as a leader.  I'm so glad His word is full of applicable wisdom.

What about you? Don't be shy. Post your verses and feel free to share any thoughts that may be stirring in your brain.

And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
Matthew 28:18-20, ESV

At the suggestion of Wayne Grudem... I started reading Systematic Theology this month.

Psalm 51:17 ESV
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

I had planned to memorized this verse in April when I fell off the wagon. It really will be a good verse for me to focus on this week though!

As our Community Group celebrates multiplication:

Acts 2:41,47 NIV

41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day...
47 ... And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

So I forgot to post but on the first I began memorizing John 15: 10-11:
"If you keep my commandments you will abide in my love just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be full." (ESV)

I'm reading "The Servant Leader" by Ken Blanchard and Phil Hodges and this verse was written in the book. I haven't read very much yet but I hope to apply the idea of servant leader to both the 2M community as well as my community in Speech Pathology. So for the second half, I have chosen to memorize Psalm 19:14:
"May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer." (NIV)

I just had to go look up the verse that I had posted at the beginning of the month because I couldn't remember it. Clearly I am behind on the memorizing. So, I am going to work on that one and also 2 Timothy 2:10 which was a powerful verse over the summer.

"Therefore, I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory."

Hopefully with a little more intentionality and discipline in the next two weeks, I can commit both of my verses for this month to memory!

2 Chronicles 7:14
I am called by your name. I humble myself, pray, seek, and require of necessity your face and turn from my wicked ways. In doing this you have promised to hear from heaven, forgive my sin and heal my land.

2 Chronicles 15:2
I seek you, inquiring for and of you, craving you as my soul's first necessity, and I am found by you.

I am just really committed and driven....for a while now i've been really trusting God with my walk of redemption and maturity. How funny that you mentioned increasing our capacity. That's what I've been praying for several months now. And as that capacity increases, my desire to place him as my souls first necessity grows bigger.

2 Samuel 22:20 -- "He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me."

Learning a lot about trust. Vague, I know, but it's difficult to sum up. It's good for me to remember that God has rescued me and did so because he delights in me. He is trustworthy.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers & sisters, when you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete not lacking in anything. James 1:2-4

One of the first things I thought about this morning when I realized what today's date was was that it was finally time to pick another verse! I was excited!
I knew after reading your last post that I wanted to do some of the 2 Peter verses. :)

"For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ." -2 Peter 1:5-8

I am glad to still be a part of this even from afar :-)

"Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power an the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all." 1 Chronicles 29:11

I have been working on philippians 1, here is what i have so far:

"Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all the saints in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
(vs. 1-6)

I'm with Sarah! So glad to be able to post a new verse. I have a growing list of verses that I want to memorizing and my prayer is that as God increases my hunger for His Word, he will also increase my ability to take it in and memorize it!

2 Corinthians 2:14-17 ESV
But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things? For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God’s word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.

I am so thankful that God led me to this passage It fits with exactly where I am right now. I am not sufficient but He is! And in him I spread the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere! :)

I look forward to the 1st and 15th as well to post new verses and if I can toot my own horn :) I have done really well with my memorizing this summer (thanks to my app)!!
My new verse is fitting as I head into fall with new, exciting opportunities!
Romans 8:28 (ESV)
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

I know my brain has been maxed out when the easiest of verses seems to take so much effort for me to memorize! I think with the family situation I'm in I've realized that my thoughts are consumed. But what has been great is that I've been able to lean on the verses that are in memory, and that has helped tremendously through this challenging time! I've even been able to encourage several people here at the hostpital with verses that I've memorized this year, as the Spirit prompts me to do so. I'm so thankful.
So I'm going to continue with the verses I listed last time, and hoping to add on a bit more.
From Aug 1st:
Philippians 2:4-5
"not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.."
(Shouldn't be that difficult to memorize, right?! Sheesh!)

And moving on, I'd like to start tackling Psalm 121.
Vs 1-3
"I lift my eyes to the mountains- where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of Heaven and eart. He will not let your foot slip - he who watches over you will not slumber."

Love you gals!!

Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. For, "yet a little while and the coming one will come and will not delay; but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back my soul has no pleasure in him." But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.
Hebrews 10:35-39

I have the first half memorized, so hopefully will get it all down this month! Sorry if I said this in my last post, but God asked me to memorize this verse so that I can walk confidently in His will for me. I am learning a lot about rebuking fear that I carry and living confidently in the way God has wired me. It has been a fun and hard lesson so far :)

Here's my September verses. Something that is a definite part of the burden God has given me in life and a passage I have been wanting to memorize for years.

Matthew 25:34-40
Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me,I was in prison and you came to me.' Then the righteous will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?' And the King will answer them,'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'
