Today starts Moxie Memorizers Guest Posts. This will benefit you because it is good to hear other perspectives from the body of Christ. We build each other up in the ways God gifts us even when it comes to spiritual disciplines.
My friend, Angela, is sharing with us today. She is a wonderful wife, mom, and friend. To top it off, God has given Angela a huge measure of giftedness to lead His people in worship. Second Mile is blessed week after week by her passion for Jesus, her desire to magnify Him, her heart for our body to sing praises to Him, and her phenomenal voice. Seriously, this woman can sing! I love her dearly, and she blesses me greatly with her friendship. I pray her words encourage and inspire you in your journey to take in His word.
- Inspired me through 2 Corinthians 9:8-11 to completely trust God for our finances, and watched Him come through in mighty ways for my family.
- During the summer He used Philippians 2:1-5 to remind me to pray for my friends by name who were serving overseas to reach university students with the Gospel.
- During an intense time of sitting with my uncle in the hospital after a tragic accident I was comforted by memorizing Psalm 121, and even saw how God used it after his death to encourage all who came to his memorial service when the pastor used the same exact passage.
- I was moved to write a worship song based off of Psalm 73. This song is now in the rotation of songs we sing in our Second Mile gatherings.
I really could go on and on, but you get the point of how mightily scripture memorizing has recently impacted my life.
There was no hesitation in committing to being a Moxie Memorizer for 2012. However, this year has been much more challenging than last. Based off of how challenging it has been you would think that I was biting off major passages to commit to, but no, even the simplest verses seem to bounce right off my brain with no absorption at all. I have really struggled these last few months with taking a long break or giving up altogether. My issue isn’t that I compare myself to what mighty amounts other posters are working on, that doesn’t phase me. I just seem to be in a battle with myself. After Angel’s May 1st post, I quickly began to realize that I needed to stop and ask for direction. What does God want me to memorize? It’s such an easy question to ask, if I would just stop and ask it. Up until now I had taken a lackadaisical approach in choosing the verses and passages. But now could He be trying to show me more if I would just listen? This month I have felt such a breakthrough. After prayer, God DID change the direction I was going and it seems to have been the missing piece.
I am realizing that this journey isn’t just about memorizing, but also about growing in how God wants me to approach His word. What I learned last year is not going to be the same story for this year, and I need to keep growing. I’m so glad I didn’t give up a couple months ago when I was feeling deflated from lack of retention and growth.
Here’s my verse for June 1st:
“A fool rejects his father’s discipline, But he who regards reproof is sensible.”
Proverbs 15:5 (NASB)
How have you grown in how you approach His word? What are the biggest challenges for you in remaining committed and consistent?
I’m excited to see what the remainder of the year holds, as well as what’s ahead in 2013! I’m glad I have you all here to encourage you to continue to come back twice a month. Let’s keep up the memorizing!
I'm still working on 2 Corinthians 4:18.
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, what is unseen is eternal.
Post up, my friends! And, let me know when YOU want to guest post for Moxie Memorizers!
